We heat the cylinder barrel while monitoring its temperature with a contact thermometer, then shrink-fit the aluminum-plated sleeve on the press.
Once it cools, you can’t adjust its position, so it’s a one-shot, high-stakes operation. With cast-iron sleeves, the difference in thermal expansion allows you to redo the fit as many times as needed, but when it comes to aluminum-on-aluminum, they become permanently bonded once cooled.
